As our lives change and technology advances we have decided to integrate a new Telemedicine option at Piney Creek Integrative Veterinary Medicine. This was prompted primarily by the COVID-19 nightmare of 2020. We have enlisted the services of this platform called TeleVet. TeleVet uses a cellphone or tablet application (Android or Apple) that will connect with the clinic and the doctors here.
The hope is that for non-urgent medical cases your pet can be evaluated by the veterinarian and treated remotely, saving you time and effort. (It also lets you stay home and reduce your chances of catching or spreading disease around the community.)
There are a few rules that have to apply to this service:
The biggest one is that your pet needs to be an established patient at the clinic and have had an examination in the last 12 months. This will qualify us as having a valid Veterinary Client Patient Relationship and makes it legal for us to attempt to help your pet. Without this, unfortunately, we cannot help without a physical exam and appointment.
The second issue is that the condition should not be an emergent condition. It may take a few hours for a doctor to get back to you, therefore this isn't an appropriate avenue for emergency services.
Lastly, your pet may have an issue that is something that cannot be addressed via telemedicine and may require an office visit. If this is the case, your exam fee will be discounted the cost of the telemedicine consultation and the staff will schedule your pet to be seen by the doctor.
I am pretty excited about this new potential and will be looking for ways to use it better and enhance our patient care. As always, please let me know if you have any questions!
With the TeleVet mobile app you can easily send virtual consultation requests to us whenever your pet is sick or injured.
To get started, download the TeleVet app on the iTunes or Google Play store and create your personal profile and your pets (pictures encouraged!). When you need us, create a consultation request detailing your pet’s issue. Upload any pictures or videos, instant message, and talk with us face to face through a video conference call to help get your pet feeling better again.
We look forward to talking with you soon.
Dr. Dohse and The Piney Creek Integrative Veterinary Medicine Team
Our focus is on preventative veterinary health care and client education offered with the highest possible level of compassion. At Piney Creek Square Integrative Veterinary Medicine, your pets are a part of our family too.
"In 2001 a very special little kitten came to stay at our house named Emma. She weighed in at a whopping 2 ½ pounds. When she was about 9 months old she began vomiting and wouldn’t eat. The doctors at Piney Creek Square Veterinary Clinic took x-rays, but nothing showed up on them. She was losing weight, and she was thin by nature anyway, so everyone was worried about her. Dr. Behrns came to the rescue and performed emergency surgery on our little girl. She found an almond trying to pass into Emma’s stomach. Of course, it would not have shown up on an x-ray. Thank you, Dr. Behrns, for saving Emma’s life." -Margo K.
