TESTIMONIALS
"In 2001 a very special little kitten came to stay at our house named Emma. She weighed in at a whopping 2 ½ pounds. When she was about 9 months old she began vomiting and wouldn’t eat. The doctors at Piney Creek Square Veterinary Clinic took x-rays, but nothing showed up on them. She was losing weight, and she was thin by nature anyway, so everyone was worried about her. Dr. Behrns came to the rescue and performed emergency surgery on our little girl. She found an almond trying to pass into Emma’s stomach. Of course, it would not have shown up on an x-ray. Thank you, Dr. Behrns, for saving Emma’s life."

Irene S.
Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
I’ve been working in veterinary medicine since 2019 and have been part of the PCSIVM team since 2021.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to help animals, and that passion has only grown stronger with time. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, I’m most passionate about making a real difference in the lives of my patients—whether it’s through medical care, comfort, or simply showing them love when they need it most.
My favorite part of the job is building lasting relationships with our Piney Creek family—both the pets and their people. When I’m not at the clinic, I love spending time with my family, reading, crafting, or heading out to Colorado National Speedway for a day at the races.
At home, I’m lucky to be loved by a full house of pets: a Chihuahua who rules the roost, a German Shepherd/Chihuahua mix who’s the ultimate mama’s boy and best buddy to the baby, an American Bulldog with a “licker” license, and a sweet domestic shorthair cat who’s always ready with kisses.
If I had a superpower, I’d love to talk to animals—just like Antonio from Encanto. And if I could be any animal, I’d choose a wolf: majestic, loyal, and protective of their pack. I’m known at the clinic for being the go-to for blood draws, and I have a special place in my heart for senior dogs.
My favorite treat is an iced cherry chai from Starbucks, and I live by the simple motto: “Treat others the way you’d want to be treated.” I give 110% to every patient, and I care for each one like they’re my own.

Kiyah D.
Veterinary Assistant
I began working in veterinary medicine in 2022 and joined the Piney Creek team in 2023. My love for animals started at a young age, but it was watching a friend thrive in an orthopedic specialty clinic that truly inspired me to pursue this career. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m especially passionate about preventative care. After spending time working in emergency medicine, I’ve seen firsthand how vital it is to stay on top of a pet’s health before issues become critical. I want every pet and their family to enjoy the longest, healthiest life together—and prevention plays a major role in that. My favorite part of working at Piney Creek is seeing both new and familiar faces each day. There’s nothing like a wagging tail or a happy kiss to brighten
your shift. I also feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a compassionate and skilled team—our shared values make this work truly rewarding. Outside of the clinic, I stay busy with competitive swimming and love playing video games with my friends. At home, I have one energetic boxer who’s
always ready for a movie night and never turns down a good butt scratch. If I could have any superpower, I’d love to read animals’ mind —whether to better understand their medical needs or just to know what they’re thinking in
funny little moments. If I could be any animal, I’d be a cheetah: fast, wild, and a little dangerous, but still lovable! I’m known around the clinic for my skill in holding cats for treatments like nail trims and blood draws—even the wiggly ones—with the help of a little Churu bribery. And while I enjoy caring for all our patients, boxers have a special
place in my heart—they’re full of personality and always make me smile. My go-to coffee order is an iced vanilla latte from Dunkin’, and the motto I live by is: “Live life one day at a time.”
I believe staying present and focused on the now is key to happiness and motivation.

Melany de Leon
Veterinary Assistant
I joined the PCSIVM team in 2024 as a Veterinary Assistant, bringing with me a deep love for animals and a strong commitment to their care and well-being. My passion for veterinary medicine is rooted in a lifelong desire to help animals, and I’m especially interested in veterinary dermatology and wildlife biology.
One of my favorite aspects of this role is the opportunity to keep learning new skills and building strong relationships with my coworkers. I take pride in being part of a team where I’ve experienced real growth—and that’s made me love the vet med field even more.
Outside the clinic, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, playing soccer, snowboarding, or baking. I also love taking my two dogs—a chocolate lab and a chihuahua—to the dog park. (Their favorite snack is peanut butter and celery!)
I’m known around the clinic for being an expert at catching urine samples and providing safe, effective restraint. My favorite patients to work with? Labrador Retrievers! And if I could have one animal-related superpower, I’d fly like a bird—so I could get to work (and everywhere else) a little faster.
My go-to treat is frozen yogurt or an iced matcha, and I live by the motto: “Mistakes are proof that you are trying.” I’m proud to be part of this team because I’ve seen how much I’ve grown here—and that growth has only strengthened my passion for veterinary medicine.
